The Casework Intake Officer also serves as the Crime Victim Assistance Coordinator (CVAC) within the department. Victims in cases that are referred for deferred prosecution supervision, rather than being prosecuted, are provided victim services in accordance with Section 57 of the Texas Family Code. Section 57 defines a victim and therefore persons who meet that definition are offered services through the Crime Victim Assistance Coordinator. The CVAC initiates contact with the victim by providing written materials, including a department brochure explaining what occurs when a juvenile is taken into custody, how juvenile cases are processed as well as lists the local community resources for the victim. In addition, the CVAC provides a Victim Impact Kit and a Victim Compensation Application in order for the victim to seek compensation from the Texas Crime Victim Compensation Fund.
