Q:
Why is this change taking place?
A: Due
to the growing population of adults age 60 and over, and the increase in need
for meal services, Galveston County sought to find a way to create long term
sustainability for the home-delivered meals program. By partnering with
Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM), an established non-profit
organization, and the largest home delivered meal provider in the State, we
hope to reduce the wait list for meal service and provide more meals to
participants in the home delivered meals program.
Q.
What is Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston?
A: IM
is an independent, 501(c)3 organization that has been providing meals, refugee
services, and interfaith relations to local residents since 1955. IM brings
people of diverse faith traditions together for dialogue, collaboration, and
service, as a demonstration of our shared beliefs.
IM believes that,
through service and dialogue, it is possible for very diverse people to know
one another and find common ground, while still embracing our personal beliefs
and cultures.
Q: Will I still
receive my meals?
A: Yes.
There will be no disruption in service for clients.
Q: Will I be charged to continue to participate in the home-delivered meals program?
A: The home-delivered meal program is available at no charge to seniors or
disabled individuals who meet annual eligibility requirements.
Q: Will my meals be different than before?
A: IM utilizes the same food service management company as Galveston
County. Clients should not notice any difference in their meals.
Q:
Will my delivery days change?
A: Due to the potential growth in the number of home-delivered meals, there
may be changes to the delivery days and times that you receive your meal
delivery. Galveston County and IM are working together to make the transition
as seamless as possible, and in the event that your delivery days or frequency
of deliveries change, you will be notified in advance through writing or by
telephone.
Q: Will I have the same meal driver?
A: The majority of the current staff will continue to provide your daily
meals and deliveries, although you may see new faces. The experience and expertise
of IM allows for the potential to provide more than just meals to participants.
As IM becomes acquainted with the participants in the program, they plan to
extend additional opportunities to Galveston County residents.
Q: What
about aniMeals on Wheels pet food?
A: If you are receiving pet food
through the aniMeals on Wheels program you can expect those services to
continue. AniMeals is a program of Interfaith Ministries and they are
committed to providing pet food and pet supplies to all clients in need.
Q.
Who will I call if I will miss my delivery or have questions?
A: If
you have any questions, please call Galveston County Senior Services at
409-770-6251. We will update you with a new phone number for IM once the number
is available.
