We continue to monitor Tropical Storm Bertha. Galveston County is not expected to experience serious impacts, but residents should prepare for breezy conditions beginning later today, stronger winds along the coast, and an increased chance of rain. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect, though the latest forecast indicates significant strengthening is unlikely as the storm moves toward our region over the next couple of days.
Regardless of Bertha’s impacts, extreme heat will affect Galveston County over the next several days. Dangerous heat conditions are expected today, with heat index values reaching as high as 116°F.
If you’re outside, stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and take precautions to protect yourself from the heat.
