All medical services for the Juvenile Justice Department are provided by the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.  If a juvenile requires medical attention during non-business hours, the Intake Officer will seek medical advice from the UTMB physician “on call”. All life-threatening injuries/illnesses shall be taken to the Mainland Center Emergency Room via ambulance. All non-life-threatening injuries/illnesses will be transported to UTMB or another facility that meets the security considerations of the Juvenile Justice Department. In all cases cited above, the parent or guardian will be notified immediately.
