Galveston County Juror Donation Program 

Texas Government Code §61.003 prescribes provisions relating to the donation of a prospective juror of the daily reimbursement for jury service. As required by the law, two charities are included as options for consideration by jurors:

• Victims of Crime Fund; and

• The County's Child Welfare Board

This statute also includes a provision for any other program selected by the Commissioner's Court that is operated by a public or private nonprofit organization and that provides shelter and services to victims of family violence; and any other program approved by the Commissioner's Court, including a program established under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 56.04(t), that offers psychological counselling to jurors in criminal cases involving graphic evidence or testimony; or a veteran's court program established by the Commissioner's Court as provided by Chapter 124 of the Texas Government Code.

All applicants must attach to the form their Articles of Incorporation, their bylaws and their mission statement. They must also submit such additional information required by the Director in order to establish that they are a public or private non-profit organization that provides shelter and services to victims of family violence. They also must provide the Director the address to which they desire donations to be sent. In the event an application is one that provides or offers psychological counselling to jurors in criminal cases involving graphic evidence or testimony, or is a veteran's court program, the applicant must submit a copy of the Commissioner's Court Order that approved the establishment of their program. 

Each organization will be notified by our office in regard to Commissioners Court’s decision. If approved, the organization will be added to the Juror’s Donation Authorization Form. (Please note that the internal processes may take up to 60-90 days for completion).
